Four Leaf Felony by Tonya Kappes is the first book in the Holiday Cozy Mystery Series.
I love Tonya’s Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery Series and when I saw a character from that series was getting her own books, I knew I had to read it.
Smiling eyes aren’t shining upon Violet Rhinehammer!
Violet Rhinehammer finally got the big break she’s been waiting for. She got the interview of a lifetime and it is only a plane ride away.
Things take a twisty turn after Violet discovers a dead body in the airplane’s bathroom. With a forced emergency landing she finds herself stranded in the tiny seaside mountain town of Holiday Junction.
Holiday Junction loves all things holiday and currently the town is painted green for their annual Shamrock Festival. Unfortunately, the NTSB has grounded any flights in or out of Holiday Junction until the crime scene is wrapped up, leaving Violet scrambling to get to her interview.
Violet takes on the investigation and enlists the help of some of the locals, new friends, and a cute security guard to help her solve the mystery.
When I read the Camper & Criminals series, Violet was not my favorite. She was kind of like that frenemy that the characters kept close. However, in Four Leaf Felony I found out so much more about Violet that made her extremely likeable. Violet is a good amateur sleuth. She has experience reporting and uses that experience to find the killer.
The supporting characters were interesting in this book. We were introduced several characters in the series and Holiday Junction makes for an interesting town. I can’t wait to see how these characters develop and how Tonya uses holidays for cozy mysteries and how the town of Holiday Junction celebrate those holidays.
I found the wrap up of the book to be a bit quick. There were not a lot of clues as to why the person that committed the crime did until the end, which is fine in a cozy, but I also didn’t think this character was introduced enough for me to suspect them.
Overall, this was a fun, quick cozy mystery and I am excited to see how the series develops.
