I read Finlay Donovan Kills It by Elle Cosimano last year but I re-read it for my book club. We are discussing the book for our March meeting and I cannot wait to hear what everyone thought.
Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.
While I read this book last year and this is a re-read, it didn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it. This book is smart and funny with a good twist. I feel like all mom’s can relate to Finlay. We are stressed out and the author goes to great lengths to show how stressed she is. Now add in someone mistaking her as a contract killer, Finlay’s life goes from stressed to maxed out. I laughed in this book over and over and enjoyed the twists of finding the killer and how Finlay was going to get herself out of the mess. The characters in this book are great and very well developed, although certain scenarios are outlandish this is a book I will always recommend to friends to get them interested in the cozy mystery genre. I hope you will check it out.
Have you read this book?
