Sugar Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke is the sixth book in the Hannah Swensen series.
The holidays are the icing on the cake for bakery owner Hannah Swensen, who is cooking up a storm for the annual Christmas Buffet. But when local face Martin Dubinski arrives into Lake Eden, Minnesota with his new Vegas wife in tow, the festivities have to be put on ice…
An antique cake knife belonging to Hannah’s mother shows up in the décolletage of the new – and now late – Mrs Dubinski. And with half the town – and a killer – left stranded at the local community centre by a blizzard, it’s up to Hannah to dig out all the clues. Can Lake Eden’s amateur investigator make sure this white Christmas doesn’t bring any more deadly tidings?
I started reading this series a few years back but I was annoyed with the love triangle between Hannah, Mike, and Norman. She would get jealous if Mike so much as looked at another woman even though she was dating two men! But I decided I was going to give the series another try since it is a big hit in the cozy mystery market. This book was quick. The murder was resolved within 60% of the way and the rest of the book was recipes. The recipes sound delicious and the mystery was interesting but I ran into the same issues that I had in the past. Mike was rude to Hannah but she swooned at his feet. Norman was his normal self and was super sweet to Hannah. I liked the addition of Hannah’s two sisters. Andrea was her funny self and Michelle was a nice addition. This book was okay. I will read the next in the series and then decide if I am going to continue the series or just be done with it.
